Fifth Vision

[Well, this is somewhat familiar. Wataru is yet again walking out of a building, except this time it's the Violet City Gym instead of the Pokécenter.

Also, he is grinning from ear to ear. Getting your very first badge can do that. Similarly, his Croconaw is marching by his side, looking rather pleased with himself.

There is also no way this sudden challenge was taken up just because his fellow travelers both got their badges on their first tries before him nope.]

It looks like we really did just need to train a bit more to beat him this time! It wasn't easy, but... We still won!

[Despite his happiness at winning, a thought occurs to him and it fades a little.]

Though... has anyone else noticed that the gym leader was awful strong for the first boss? When I played the games in my world, the first gym leader was way easier than that.

[ have you ever seen Kisa look THIS happy? She's doing her usual trot over to him. ]

[And he's running to meet her! He's so excited, he very nearly hugs her, but remembers at the last minute just how awkward that could potentially be and doesn't.

He is still very very happy, though.]

[ at least hugging Kisa now would not end as horribly as it would have done, had she not figured things out. Poor Artemis.

On her end, she's practically glowing, and nodding very eagerly. She saw! ]

There's eight gym leaders in all, so that means I've got seven left... But it's a good start!

[ it is! Kisa gives him a firmer nod this time; she's got full faith he can get the rest. ]

This makes three people in our group who have badges now. Do you know if your cousin is battling the gym leaders, too?

[...because. He still doesn't know Ritsu very well.]

... [ Kisa shrugs apologetically. She's got no clue on that one, and Ritsu doesn't seem like the battling type at ALL. ]

You don't know either? I suppose we'll just have to wait and see, then.

[ nodding, though looking a little pleased. Does that mean they'll be sticking together? ]

[He... has no idea why she suddenly looks even happier, so um.]

...? Did I say something funny?

[ whoops, quickly shaking her head. ]

[A small headtilt. He is so confused.]

[ Noticing that, she slowly slips out her Gear, and works out a response. ]

You want to stay with us?

Huh...? Of course I do! I-if that's okay, at least.

[He... probably should have asked the last part first. Whoops.]

[ she doesn't even NEED to text anything. Kisa's nodding immediately. ]

Great! Then I'll travel with you for a while longer!

[...Maybe even for the entire league, he's hoping.]

[ that makes her light up and give him a happy nod. Hey, she won't mind at all if he's with them for that long. ]

[He's pretty happy about this arrangement, too! Or at least, until...]

...You don't think Artemis or Savyna or your cousin will mind, do you?

... [ she can't speak for them, but she's pretty sure they won't, so she tries to look reassuring. ]

...Well, even if they don't, we're taking the same path anyway. It would be hard to avoid traveling together even if I tried.

[ she thinks this through, then nods. He's got a point.

... But she's happier that he's with them. ]

Heheh. I guess I'll be asking around to make sure it's okay. I don't think there will be any problems, but if there are, I'll just have to keep up with you from outside the group.

I guess so. I just wasn't expecting the gym leader to be so tough. I mean, in the games I played, my Pokémon were a lot weaker and I still won. Unless it's just they way they do it in this area...

I'm sure it didn't take you over a week simply to reach a town in any of the games you've played either.

[Kind of like how it took a long time to get anywhere in Vision.]

...I guess no matter what world it is, the real life version's different.

Be careful not to underestimate him. He's tougher than he looks!

Yeah. This place has different Pokémon and trainers and locations, but I didn't think the gym leaders would be that much tougher.

Mm, I won't. We've been training for some time in preparation.

I see. Are there other... large differences that you've noticed?

Hmmm... I've heard people talking about berries, but I haven't looked for any. Also, I think there's a couple of new Pokémon types that weren't in the games.

I seem to recall reading something about the berries in the handbook... Oh! But I do know they're not safe for humans to eat. [She's seen... more than a few entries on the gear to that effect.] And you mean the elemental types?

[Nod.]

My Croconaw has an attack called "Bite" that was a Normal type in the game, but now it's Dark. They didn't even have that type in the game, either.

...I was actually wondering if I could stay with you guys. I-if you all don't mind. If it's a problem, I can go by myself too.

[Give him a minute. He thought it was going to be scarier.]

[As the news sinks in, he begins to grin happily.]
